A short history of C++
C++ was created by Bjarne Stroustrup at Bell Labs in 1979. He wanted to add object-oriented features to the C language, so he originally called it "C with Classes". The name was changed to C++ in 1983 (the ++ is the C increment operator — meaning "one step better than C").
C++ added:
- Classes and objects (object-oriented programming)
- Inheritance (child classes that get features from parent classes)
- Virtual functions (dynamic binding — deciding at runtime which function to call)
